Female To Male (FTM) & Female To Nonbinary (FTN) Reconstruction Chest Surgery
FTM/N Post-Surgery Care
FTM/N top surgery is done on an outpatient basis. You go home the same day of surgery and do not stay overnight. A compression garment (ace wrap or formal postoperative garment) should be worn for 3weeks at all times except while showering. If you have free nipple grafts, showering will be restricted for the first week until the dressings are removed. There will be drains(one on each side) present right after surgery, which are removed at 1 week.
In all cases, strenuous activity should be avoided for 3-4 weeks.Most patients return to work in one to two weeks depending on the level of activity involved. Most swelling will resolve over the first six weeks, but will resolve more gradually over a period of months. The result is considered final at one year after surgery.
